MacPhail Center for Music - Austin High School

Location

Austin, MN

In the 1950s Austin Public Schools constructed the Annex Building on the west side of 4th Street (across the street from the main high school building). Amazingly, the project team had the foresight to construct this building so that some day it would be structurally capable of supporting a second story. Almost 70 years later this vision became a reality when the district approved the joint effort with the MacPhail Center for Music to locate its operations in the Annex Building.

In January of 2019 Joseph broke ground on this $8 million project with the primary challenge being how do we complete the project without affecting the operations of the school. Throughout the winter and spring Joseph did as much as possible within the building so that when the school year ended it would be all hands on deck in erecting the outside structure. This phased construction allowed for some of the building to be occupied in the winter of 2020 with the remainder open in time for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
